| Solardish Records / Music Blog |  | | SDR005: Cloverskin - The Ranch / Waterflow EP | | Cloverskin, a French composer of electronic music, mixes a style that is individual, traditional and innovative - compositions that should make him the talk of the town. For Solardish Records he provides concrete compositions here: "The Ranch" has a remarkably lead melody that would sound tired if it didn't bounce, a creaking acoustic sample of what might be a rocking chair grinding into the floor. Unconcerned with fitting in with anything other than itself, it's remarkably reminiscent of a 1970's idea of the soundtrack to the future. Dan Lambert and Roxter arrive for Remix duty, taking "The Ranch into their own hands. Dan Lambert from Brazil delivers a Remix in his unique Biosfera House Style. He refits the tune, making it a tad darker and focusing things squarely on a descending synth line, while the German trio Roxter find the club bounce hidden in the original guitar sound. "Waterflow" marks a shift to a reflective mood. Its atmospheric sounds round off a strong first release and suggest that Cloverskin has more surprises up his sleeve. Closing things out, Dan Freeman from Toronto delivers fresh tech-house sounds with his Remix of Waterflow . As an artist who spent equals parts of his life in Europe and North America and who travels extensively, he understands that the sound of cultural heritage and the vibe of modern life blend to define us in the present.

Few producers have as high an engineering rate as Alvaro Hylander, a Spanish DJ & Producer based in Denmark. The artist's latest productions might as well come with a "strong buy" sticker, and his releases for Solardish Records (Germany) and Etoka Records (UK) have been of a consistently high standard. What's most impressive about his music is his ability to sound utterly distinctive and forward thinking while mixing the warmth of Europe's south with the accurate coldness of Europe's north using what sounds like just a few intelligent elements. Alvaro's sound design works for big clubs as well as for beach venues and has the ability to tell a story of his deep understanding of house music & techno's past.
Theorizing aside, the first track on the Sunset EP "At Night" builds on all of these influences and even makes a nod to the sophisticated DJ. It's got the usual tribal minimal stomp, but adds in expectant orchestral samples both droning and quick-hitting. A moody melody that seems to constantly ebb and flow, sometimes more intense, often less so, is joined by skipping percussion and strong pads that remain in the background throughout.
The second track "Eva's D" was already featured on our Summer Sampler 2009 and now gets a full release. This track is straighter and more focused on deep-house vibes. Here too, Alvaro's rumbling pad melodies keep changing, fluid but always getting to the point. Spiraling filters and evil acid sequences augment this hot production.
The third track 'Sand Textures' is a smooth melodic house track that fits perfectly into those warm summer nights that we had this year.
All three tracks on this Sunset EP work their magic with stunning melodies and a solid groove adding some pump to the steady, pummeling regularity of the kick drum with a hint of house and techno.

Constantinides from Buenos Aires started to work on house music since 1998 when he cleaned out the dust on an old HT700 and got into house music. Since then, the results were very positive. He performed on several live shows in Mar del Plata, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. Solardish Records welcomes Constantinides, the Argentinian creator of extreme sounds derived straight from deep house. To celebrate his first release on Solardish Records he has decided to release a dark and energetic track. Amorlifonico uses a simple riff to full effect: an organic bassline delivering rolling funkiness.
Alvaro Hylander from Denmark puts the direction of the song more into a tech vibe pulsing like a far-distant galaxy. It's by far the bounciest track you'll find here. Alvaro focuses his attention on sound design and tension-building playing with the bassline and painting an awesome futuristic soundscape around it. His synth staps are catchy as hell.
The Zweiklang twins from Germany deliver a melodic groove by going subtle and using the bassline as raw material. Their Remix is an exercise in fundamental hypnotics - the type of track that has no end in sight until something comes in and brings things down, ready to be pitched up or down depending on where you might be playing it.
Finally the CJ Hip House Mix brings the Oldschool House feeling back to the dancefloor with his Hip House groove and the retro synth effects.
